Hotel History- - The Hotel De Russie Is Situated In The Center Of Rome S Most Fashionable Area- On The Via Del Babuino- Between The Spanish Steps And Facing The Piazza Del Popolo. The Lower Part Of The Building Was Originally Designed In 1816 By Architect Giuseppe Valadier- As A Matter Of Fact It Was Valadier S Idea To Incorporate The Internal Courtyard Which Still Exists Today At The Entrance To The Property, Together With The Terraced Gardens Which Extend Up To The Pincio Above. During The 19th And 20th Centuries The Hotel De Russie Was Host To The European Aristocracy, Including Jerome Napoleon- Who Stayed And Died There In 1891, Picasso And Cocteau Who Spent There A Long Part Of Their Sojourn In Rome During 1917. During World War Ii The Hotel Was Requisitioned For Use By The Center For Military Information Services And After This It Was Taken Over By Count Vaselli Who Transformed The Building Into Offices. As A Matter Of Fact The Building Was The Headquarters Of Radio Televisione Italiana Until 1993. Since Then The Hotel De Russie Has Remained Vacant. On April 7, 2000, Thanks To Rf Hotels The New Deluxe Hotels Group Founded By Sir Rocco Forte, The Hictorical Hotel De Russie Will Be Brought Back To Its Original Splendor With A Total Of 190 Bedrooms And Suites, A 3000 Square Meter Garden, A Fully Equipped Spa And Fitness Center.
